Dog Bite Injuries

Being bitten by a dog, whether it is a small or large breed is terrorizing. New Jersey has a very strong law that protects dog bite victims. Fortunately, it is not necessary to prove that a dog is known to be vicious or that it has bitten someone before. Under the New Jersey Dog Bite Statute, the law requires a victim to prove who owns the dog and that there was a bite.  As long as the victim of the attack has not provoked the dog to bite, they can recover for the damages they suffer.

A dog bite injury can leave permanent physical and emotional scarring. It is not unusual that these dog bite injuries require emergency medical treatment, suturing of the wound and evaluation by a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

If you, a loved one or a friend is bitten by a dog, call the police and ask for immediate medical evaluation. The police together with an animal control officer will identify the owner of the dog and determine if the dog has received its rabies shots.  They will also prepare a report of the incident.
